Fire Safety New Year’s Resolutions

Promoting fire safety means that you have an effective fire safety plan and goals

2020 is now among us, which means that you probably have a list of things that you want to accomplish. We want to encourage you to put fire safety into your New Year’s Resolution list, whether you’re a home or business owner. Here are some fire safety New Year’s resolutions that you should keep in mind.

Testing Fire Alarms Once a Month

At the minimum, you should test your fire alarms twice a year, but testing them more often does promote fire safety. Checking your fire alarms once a month could alert you to issues such as you needing to change your batteries, or inform you that your fire alarm isn’t working. This task is relatively easy and doesn’t take a lot of work on your end.

Cooking Safely

Cooking is one of the most significant risks when it comes to residential fire safety. It’s common for people to walk away from a stove or get distracted while they’re cooking, and allow a fire to start. Grease fires are difficult to put out. So, this year, you should commit yourself to prepare meals safely.

Talking to Children About Fire Safety More Often

This resolution is significant as well when it comes to residential fire safety. You should quite a bit of time during the year talking to your children about fire safety. If this is already something that you do, then that’s excellent. Children are sponges if you teach them about fire safety, or any skill, early in life. They should know what practices are unsafe (such as playing with matches or turning on the stove without your permission), and they should know two ways to escape your home in case of a fire emergency.

Hiring a Commercial Fire Protection Company

We cannot stress enough the significance of fire safety in general, but especially at a business. When you’re a business owner, you’re responsible for making sure that your employees are safe. If you know that your commercial fire protection equipment is not up to par and would fail a fire inspection, then give us a call. We suggest that you make a commercial fire safety top on your resolutions list as a business owner.
